Wonderful Worcestershire Wedding Venues
Today I am in my element! I will be describing two hotels that I have had the pleasure of working at and one wedding venue where my husband and I tied the knot. Let’s start at the start shall we?
The Stourport Manor Hotel
I started working as a receptionist at this hotel about 14 years ago. They held many weddings and this is where my interest in the wedding world began. The main hotel is a Victorian stately home where the Prime Minister Stanley Baldwin once lived. There are bedrooms in the main house and further bedrooms in the accommodation building attached, 72 bedrooms including family rooms in total. The bedrooms are furnished very well and have a stylish contemporary feel. The main hotel has several beautiful reception rooms, all with working fireplaces. There is a bar in the centre of the hotel so it provides easy access for all residents and guests. 220 guests can be looked after comfortably in the wedding suites, these can be styled to suit your theme.
The Elms Hotel, Abberley
This stunning Queen Anne manor house is beautifully situated in the gorgeous Worcestershire countryside. The building was designed and built by Thomas White, a pupil of Sir Christopher Wren. I worked at the Elms Hotel for many years as the Reception Manager and had some of the best times here. I remember in the Winter arriving for work very early in the morning, it was still pitch black outside. I would walk down the staff corridor and hear the housekeepers pottering about and the kitchen staff clicking pans. I would make my way into the main hotel where the head housekeeper Ronnie would be busy making the fires, I would hurry over to her and ask if she wanted a tea or coffee. I would pop out the back, make our drinks and we would sit in front of the fire waiting for the first guests to come down. I can still remember the sound that fire made, it really was a roaring fire. After a short time other staff would arrive and the guests would make their way down to breakfast.
The main hotel has many stunning reception rooms, along with 23 bedrooms, all beautiful decorated and unique in one way or another. There is also the option of having a marquee in the grounds. The venue can comfortably accommodate 76 days guests and up to 128 for the evening. I would definitely recommend a visit to The Elms, it really is a treasure!
Every Saturday was wedding day, I used to cut plants from the garden and attach them to all the wedding table plans I used to make for the wedding breakfasts.
The Curradine Barns, Shrawley
My very own wedding venue! I used to visit the barns when I was a little girl with my mum. We would visit them every single year at Christmas time, as back then it used to be a Christmas barn. I remember it being very cold and crisp walking into the barn only to be faced with warm and the beautiful scent of cinnamon. Every inch inside the barn was covered with breath-taking handmade Christmas decorations. There were wooden characters, wreaths, candles, garlands, trinkets and Much, much more, all handcrafted by the farmer’s wife.
The Christmas barn has since been refurbished into the Bridal Suite. The main farmer’s house is now guest accommodation and has been refurbished up to the highest of standards. The Curradine Barns is a u-shaped building, which surrounds the beautiful brick paved courtyard. Outside you can find ample seating and their brand new outdoor pizza over, which I can personally add are exceptional. The main barn is home to the bar, seating area, guest WC’s, civil ceremony room and wedding breakfast room. Upstairs you will find the “getting ready” area for the bridal party. The menu is exquisite, from the canapés on arrival to the trio of desserts, you will not be disappointed. We have been told to this day from our wedding guests that it was the best wedding breakfast they have ever had!
Situated in the beautiful Worcestershire countryside The Curradine Barns is a truly magical wedding venue. My handmade luxury wedding invitations were fab and I would highly recommend a visit as there is also a beautiful church - St Mary’s right next door which is also where my husband and I got married.
