An excited family from Perth has found the world's oldest known message in a bottle, almost 132 years after it was thrown into the sea.
Tonya Illman came across the bottle whilst going for a walk around sand dunes on a beach in Western Australia. Her husband Kym Illman told the BBC they found some paper in the bottle but had "no idea" what it was until they took it home and dried it in the oven. They contacted experts who say they believe it came from a German ship. The note in the bottle was dated 12 June 1886, how exciting! Messages in bottles were originally used to send distress messages from sea, nowadays they are often used for wedding invitations.
Here at The Wedding Parcel we have specialised in creating message in a bottle wedding invitations for 9 years, we love our original bottle but lately we have started creating a number of new designs.
